Food and Art Tour
With this private tour, we could discover some unknown Florentine places, but unmissable for lovers of history, crafts and food!!
Our tour will start in Piazza Santa Croce (Santa Croce Square). We will visit the famous Santa Croce Church inside, a Medieval Franciscan church housed tombs of the most important Italian men, like Michelangelo, Galileo and Machiavelli. Here you will admire amazing frescoes made by Giotto, Florentine master of XIII century.
After this deep immersion in the Florentine and Italian art and history, we will walk towards one of the most genuine neighbourhoods of Florence, the Sant’Ambrogio district.
Our first stop will be in an artisan workshop of Commesso fiorentino. Commesso fiorentino, called “The Florentine mosaic”, was born in the XVI century thanks to the Medici Family and never forgotten until our days! A lot of amazing Florentine masterworks were made with this technique in the past. In this workshop you will admire famous craftsmen at work, they will explain the secret of this ancient art and they will show us some amazing pieces created by the their expert hands.
After this stop, in few steps we will reach Mercato di Sant’Ambrogio (Sant’Ambrogio food market). This is an historical local market to taste unforgettable real florentine flavors! This market, built in 1873 after the destruction of the “Old market” in Piazza della Repubblica, is frequented daily by many Florentines looking for authentic food and Tuscan specialities. In the market we will try the most traditional food of Florence like schiacciata (our focaccia), Tuscan salame and prosciutto and our special “coccoli”!! We will taste our pecorino cheese with a little honey or balsamic vinagree. And you can’t miss to taste the famous Tuscan olive oil and a glass of a good Chianti wine.
Our greedy tour will end in a nice cafeteria. Here we will taste some different kind of espresso accompanied by delicious chocolate wrapped in a magical atmosphere made by sweet sounds and flavors.
